*Tuboid version 1.0*

Tuboid is computer software that generates an endless mutating
tube-like membrane.

*Requirements*

OpenGL compatible graphics card on a Windows 95/98 or NT computer.
Recent drivers for your grapics card can be found at www.glsetup.com
or the chip manufacturers web sites.
This program has been tested extensively on cards using NVIDIA
3D chips, like RIVA 128, TNT, TNT2 and GeForce. Good performance is
almost guaranteed on cards using these 3D chips.

*Installation*

Make a directory for Tuboid. Copy tuboid.exe, tuboid_config.txt,
texture.bmp, readme.txt and the .sct files to it.

*How to use it*

You can start the program by double clicking on it, or by dropping
a .sct (section) file on it.

Move the mouse or joystick to steer.

button 1 : faster, button 2 : slower
button 1 + 2 + move : shift
[escape] to quit
[m] to display popup menu
[-]/[=] to decrease/increase max speed
[v]/[V] to decrease/increase field of view
[f] to toggle fog
[i] to toggle info
[l] to toggle lighting
[t] to toggle textures
[y] to toggle steering up-down swap

*Menu*

[render]
  [mode]
[points] : Render the tuboid vertices.

[sections] : Render the tuboid sections.

[wireframe] : Render the tuboid mesh as wireframe.

[solid flat] : Render the tuboid mesh as a solid flat surface.

[solid smooth] : Render the tuboid mesh as a solid smooth surface.

  [attributes]
[normals] : Use vertex or triangle normal vectors while
rendering. This is a must to achieve correct
                        tuboid lighting.

[colors] : Use per vertex color. Currently the generated
colors are very intense, for testing purposes.

[texcoords] : Use tuboid texture coordinates. Necessary for
correct placement of textures on the tuboid.

  [method]
[direct vertices] : Send data per vertex to the graphics card.

[vertex arrays] : Send data in arrays to the graphics card.

[display lists] : Send data in display lists to the graphics card.

[quit] : quit the tuboid program

*Known issues*

The proper default material colors are not restored when you disable
the per vertex color attribute. This could be an OpenGL driver bug.

When using the display lists render method, a few segments are missing
when the observer happens to be near the world coordinate system origin.

When moving into very narrow gaps, the collision response starts to
oscillate sideways, instead of disallowing the observer to move forward.
When moving at very high speeds, some collisions are not detected, and the
observer can penetrate the tuboid surface. A next generation physics
system will fix this.

*Feedback*

Feel free to send your tuboid_log.txt to notnot@xs4all.nl, this
information will be used to further improve the code.
